About Stephen Monro

Stephen Monro is an attorney based in Washington State with decades of experience in law, construction, and real estate. He has founded several law firms, including the Monro Law Firm and Platinum Law Group, and is admitted to all Washington State Courts and the Western and Eastern District Federal Courts. In addition to his legal practice, he holds licenses as a general contractor, real estate broker, and IRS tax preparer. Stephen has, in the past, provided pro bono legal services for more than 25 years, representing individuals who would otherwise go without legal support. He is an active member of several legal associations and has experience in complex legal matters across civil litigation, personal injury, and property law.

Stephen K. Monro was born in 1952 in Seattle, Washington. After completing secondary education, Stephen enrolled at Central Washington University. There, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, completing his undergraduate studies with a broad liberal arts foundation. He followed that with a Juris Doctor degree from City University in Los Angeles. Later in life, Stephen returned to academic work, pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree through City University.

Before beginning his legal career, Stephen served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. His time in the military instilled confidence in decision-making, control under pressure, and respect for order, which proved transferable to legal practice and firm management. The ability to follow through, lead under stress, and execute tasks without compromise remained with him long after his military service concluded.

Stephen began practicing law in 1996. Since then, he has represented clients throughout Washington State, including appearances in both state and federal courts. He is admitted to every Washington State court and holds authorization to practice before the Western and Eastern District Federal Courts of Washington.

He is active in the Washington State Bar Association and affiliated with the Washington State Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice. These associations serve as resources for peer exchange, legal education, and standards in litigation practices.

Over time, Stephen Monro established his own practice, which has operated under several firm names, including the Law Office of Stephen K. Monro, The Monro Law Firm, and Platinum Law Group.

In addition to legal experience, Stephen previously worked as a General Contractor in the State of Washington. This experience provides a basis for legal cases involving building sites, contracts, property damage, and real property disputes. Most attorneys approach these cases with limited experience in the worksite environment. Stephen brings firsthand experience in construction environments, budgeting, scheduling, and regulatory inspection.

In addition, he is a licensed real estate broker in Washington State. This license adds technical understanding of transactions, listing processes, disclosures, sales contracts, and agency relationships. Combined with legal training, he can address client issues with a full picture of transactional obligations and legal remedies.

His dual roles in real estate and construction intersect frequently with legal representation. From commercial disputes to residential sales gone wrong or property boundary disagreements, he brings the experience needed to assess documents, site conditions, and claims without relying on outside interpretation.

Stephen, with his vast experience, offers mediation services to end conflict and protracted litigation. He accepts all types of mediation resolution at fair and reasonable costs. The majority of cases are concluded at mediation.

Stephen is credentialed with the IRS to provide assistance with the preparation of various tax returns.
